FAQ

Trade Builder, answered.

What am I actually looking at?

The whole forward options calendar for one symbol on a single chart: every future expiration along the x-axis, strikes up the y-axis, and your trade legs drawn on top. It is built for seeing where a trade sits relative to earnings, expected range, and the strikes where other people are actually positioned.

What do the earnings and insider markers mean?

Historical earnings dates appear on the chart with their implied and actual moves, green when the actual move was up and red when it was down. The arrows are insider buys and sells as reported to the SEC, scaled to the size of the trade; hover one for the officer’s title, the share count, and the dollar value.

How do I read the volatility shading?

Green marks expirations where future volatility looks undervalued against our forecast, red where it looks overvalued, using ORATS’ proprietary models for short- and long-term volatility and slope. The chart also draws the 68% and 95% expected stock range from the at-the-money implied volatility.

What are the cyan and purple bars?

Open interest and volume at each strike for each expiration, cyan for calls and purple for puts. The scale sits in the top left of the chart, so you can tell at a glance whether a strike is genuinely crowded or just looks tall.

Can I trade from the chart?

Yes. Drag legs onto the chart to build a position, check it against the payoff diagram and Greeks in the Risk Profile, and send it to Interactive Brokers, TradeStation, or Tradier, or into a paper account, without leaving the platform.

What does the Trade Builder cost?

It is included in ORATS Trading Tools at $99 per month for an individual license ($199 per user per month for a professional license), alongside every other tool on the platform, from the backtesters and scanners to Otto, real-time data, and broker connections. Cancel within 24 hours of signup for an automatic full refund.
